Charity

For those of you who were able to watch the Opening Ceremonies of this year's Olympics, this story will be familiar. Amidst all of the athletes and political leaders involved in the ceremony, there was one who was at the forefront of recognition. He walked along-side the popular NBA star - Yao Ming, who carried the Flag for the host country - China. This young boy was a victim who survived the earthquake which hit China just a few months ago (in May). He is a second grade, nine-year old boy who was at school during the quake. His school collapsed and his teacher and many of his classmates were killed. This young boy, although injured, freed himself from the rubble. Astonishingly, it wasn't enough to save himself so he then went back to the rubble and dug - going on to free two of his classmates. When asked why he did this courageous act, in what was now a dangerous area, he replied - 'I'm the class reader and a hall monitor; it was my responsibility.' "Greater love hath no man than this . . . ." (John 15:13); The bible dictionary defines Charity as "the highest, noblest, strongest kind of love, not merely affection; the pure love of Christ." Perhaps it is also serving and doing for others when it is not required of us.

And So We Endure

'Much of the work in this world is done by those who had good reasons to give up, but didn't. . .

In 1775, when the British army marched on Concord and Lexington, Massachusetts farmer Samuel Whittemore was close to 80 years old. But to him, that was no reason not to get involved. So he packed up a rifle, two pistols, and a saber and joined the fight. Although he was wounded 14 times, Samuel survived and lived another 18 years. He endured.

When Marie Curie's husband died suddenly in an accident, she was devastated. But instead of becoming paralyzed by her sorrow, she devoted herself to her work—the study of radioactive elements. Later in life, Marie suffered the painful effects of her exposure to radiation, but still she continued. Twice she was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics. She endured.

It's easy to find reasons to give up or even not to try. We all have worries, fears, and weaknesses. Most experience pain of one kind or another. But whenever we are tempted to give up, it may be helpful to remember that problems and limitations need not stand in the way of accomplishment, large or small. We can all contribute, regardless of our circumstances. And so we endure.'

I have to write a little rant for you all, because I am so annoyed. The radio stations here suck. They suck so bad. First off, they do not have one single country station. NOT ONE! It is the most ridiculous thing ever. Secondly, they play the same 10 songs over and over and over. They aren't even good songs:
Forever by Chris Brown
No Air by Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks
When I Grow Up by Pussycat Dolls
Keep Breathing by Leona Lewis
Bubbly by Colbie Caillat
Viva La Vida by Coldplay
I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry
Wow I overestimated when I said 10. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. I have not heard Jack Johnson once since I have been out here. No Staind, Matt Nathanson, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Damien Rice, Blink 182, Eminem, Jay Z, see I am not biased they don'[t freakin play ANYTHING out here. And my cd in my car is broken. Ok I just complained like a little girl so I guess I will get back to my job now. :)

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life, it goes on

I was at church for 7 hours yesterday. Thats an awful long time. But we stayed and got to see Elder Jeffrey R. Holland's broadcast and it was amazing. He talked about Joseph Smith, and him being in the Carthage jail, and how we are all sometimes in our own "Carthage jail." He is a great speaker. I really like being out here, and I really like the ward a lot. Its very different from any singles wards I have been in in Utah. I met with the Bishop yesterday too. He is a great man. I really like him. I got to hang out with lauren and Diana this weekend which was really fun. its nice to be making more friends out here. Me and Megan are going kayaking tomorrow so I am very excited for that. Ok that is my little update for now, I will write more later but I gotta get to bed.

Play dates, more fun for the kids, or the nannies?

I'm gonna have to say the nannies. Its the only time I feel semi sane during the week. I wish we could have playdates more often but oh well I'll take what I can get. Here are some pictures of our last play date, where it is obvious we enjoyed it more than them. We made tye dye shirts, the kids quit after about 10 minutes but Megan and I kept finding more things to dye, including the white pants she wore over here...

Megan showing everyone what to do

Everyone is so excited...

Finally!

I have been wanting to get a blog for ages, so my lovely sister-in-law was kind enough to make this one for me! Yay, now you can all stay updated on my insanely fascinating life. Connecticut is great, it is beautiful out here. I made 2 whole freinds too! Steffany and Megan, they are both nannies out here also. Megan is in Rye, New York, and Steffany is in Old Greenwich. Im sure you will see many pictures of them, seeing as they are the only people I hang out with. I guess I'll start off with some pictures... This is maybe why Megan and I shouldn't be friends...

All we do is eat!

Crepes at Meli Melo

Chinese

Now you might not think that is so bad, but keep in mind, that was all in one day. And don't worry we made a starbucks run inbetween :) Well, I guess I should get back to work, but I'll post some more pics later.
